Alarm Will Sound will be joining Dirty Projectors for two special shows later this month, performing the latter band's The Getty Address at Lincoln Center's Allen Room in NYC and at Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA. In between these shows, Alarm Will Sound will perform music by Caleb Burhans at NYC's Poisson Rouge. This summer, the group will be featured in the first-ever Mizzou New Music Summer Festival.
Alarm Will Sound and its artistic director/conductor Alan Pierson will be joining Brooklyn-based band Dirty Projectors for two special performances later this month. The two will come together to perform the latter band's 2005 album The Getty Address: in New York City at The Allen Room at Lincoln Center February 19 and in Los Angeles at Walt Disney Concert Hall on the 27th. For the L.A. performance, the Los Angeles Philharmonic will open with a program curated by Dirty Projectors leader Dave Longstreth.
In between these shows, Alarm Will Sound will headline its own set at the downtown New York club Poisson Rouge, with a program devoted entirely to the music of one of the group's own: composer/performer Caleb Burhans.
Later this season, Alarm Will Sound will be featured in the first-ever Mizzou New Music Summer Festival, to be held July 12-18 on the campus of the University of Missouri. The Mizzou New Music Initiative will bring eight composers from around the world, selected through a portfolio application process, to compose a work that Alarm Will Sound will perform. The selected composers will receive instruction from composers Martin Bresnick and Derek Bermel, participate in workshops with Alarm Will Sound and master classes, and receive a professional live recording and the premiere performance of their work. Pianist Lisa Moore, the festival's resident performing artist, will give an evening recital and workshop. University of Missouri composition faculty members Dr. W. Thomas McKenney and Dr. Stefan Freund, Alarm Will Sound's cellist, will give presentations on their music.
Future dates are already in the works, with Alarm Will Sound's inclusion in Carnegie Hall's 2010-11 season, announced last week. In March 2011, the group will bring its multimedia performance, 1969, to Carnegie's Zankel Hall. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette named the group's performance of the piece last year at Pittsburgh's New Hazlett Theater among the year's ten best live shows.
