Bill Frisell is the subject of an extensive interview with All About Jazz titled "The Quiet Genius." "If there is a given within the music of guitarist Bill Frisell," writes Lloyd Peterson in the preface to his interview, "it's the honest approach in every note he composes and plays. There are no compromises."

Peterson goes on to describe the "magical world of creativity" Frisell creates in his music as one that "incorporates yet transcends all styles and genres of music." He calls the guitarist "one of today's most original and innovative composers," citing his "unique and distinct voice that has developed into his own personal musical language."

The interview preface concludes that, "brilliant guitarist" though Frisell is, "to focus on his technical proficiency would be to deny his compositional genius as a painter of sound."
