Toussaint is in California this week for a string of performances hitting both ends of the state. After last night's performance at the Great American Music Hall and tonight's Kimmel appearance, he heads to Santa Cruz for a set at Kuumbwa Jazz Center on Friday. The following night, Toussaint shares a special double bill with The Blind Boys of Alabama at Royce Hall in Los Angeles on Saturday.

That's the last scheduled performance in the States this month, as Toussaint heads to Europe for shows in Italy, starting with the elegantly titled Allen Toussaint Festival on March 18 at the Teatro Arena del Sole in Bologna. For the occasion, Toussaint will be joined by clarinettist Don Byron, one of the featured players on the pianist's Nonesuch debut, The Bright Mississippi. The European tour also includes a week's residency at Marian's in Bern, Switzerland, for the 35th anniversary International Jazz Festival Bern.
