As the world's Olympic athletes bid farewell to Canada, Wilco too will soon say adieu as the band's TransCanada Tour concludes this week. The next leg of the tour begins soon, and new dates have just been added to the European tour in September. Before then, Glenn Kotche will join Mario Batali for an event to benefit eighth blackbird. And a song from Wilco's 2009 tour stop at Bonnaroo is available for free with your support of the current climate change bill.
As the world's Olympic athletes bid farewell to Vancouver and the host country of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, Wilco too will soon say adieu, with glowing hearts, to its neighbor to the north, as the band's TransCanada (a.k.a. Tundra) Tour concludes this week with stops at Ottawa's National Arts Centre tonight and a sold-out tour closer at the Halifax Forum on Wednesday.
There's much more touring ahead for the band as the next leg of their 2010 tour, a series of intimate outings billed as An Evening with Wilco, begins later this month at the Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami. On the other end of the summer, Wilco's September tour through Europe continues to fill in, as new dates have been added in London, Belfast, Glasgow, Vienna, around the previously scheduled dates in Germany and the UK's End of the Road festival. With Wilco still in Canada for a few more days, the band recently Tweeted news of a Toronto restaurant that, if judging by its name, must cater to the finest of palates. It's called Sky Blue Sky Sandwich Company, after the band's 2007 album, and sandwiches are named after songs from the Wilco catalog. Judging by the photos in the BlogTO restaurant review, it looks like Torontonians will be well fed for some time to come.

In other food-related Wilco news, percussionist Glenn Kotche will join chef Mario Batali and a number of others for a performance and five-course dinner benefiting the new-music ensemble eighth blackbird. The event will begin with music at Chicago's Packer Schopf Gallery followed by dinner at the nearby gastro-pub The Publican. Eighth blackbird gave the world premiere performance of Steve Reich's Pulitzer Prize-winning Double Sextet in 2008 and has recorded the piece for a future Nonesuch recording.
