Boyhood has been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards: Best Motion Picture, Drama; Best Director and Best Screenplay for Richard Linklater; Best Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette; and Best Supporting Actor for Ethan Hawke. Joaquin Phoenix is up for Best Actor, Comedy or Musical, for Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice, and Patti Smith and Lenny Kaye's song "Mercy Is," from Darren Aronofsky's Noah, is up for Best Original Song. All three films' soundtracks are on Nonesuch Records.

Congratulations as well to Joaquin Phoenix, who has been nominated for Best Actor, Comedy or Musical, for Paul Thomas Anderson's film Inherent Vice, which opens in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles tomorrow, and to Patti Smith and Lenny Kaye, whose song "Mercy Is," from Darren Aronofsky's film Noah, is up for Best Original Song.

Nonesuch Records released the soundtracks for Boyhood, which spans the story's 12 years, with songs ranging from the year 2000 to 2013, and Noah, featuring a score by Clint Mansell, earlier this year. (Kronos Quartet, which performs Mansell's score, also joins Patti Smith in performing "Mercy Is" on the soundtrack.) The Inherent Vice soundtrack, with a score by Jonny Greenwood, is due out on Nonesuch next week and is available to pre-order now.

    Congratulations to Kronos Quartet, whose acclaimed 1992 Nonesuch album Pieces of Africa has been named one of twenty-five recordings to be inducted into the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress for 2024. "It planted a seed for our work," Kronos founder and violinist David Harrington says of the album. "It's flowered so beautifully."
