In honor of Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday this past March, the Roundabout Theatre Company announced that it would rename its Henry Miller's Theatre, on West 43rd Street in New York City, The Stephen Sondheim Theatre. In a public ceremony tonight, the composer lights the marquee renamed in his honor. Among those scheduled to appear are Patti LuPone and librettist John Weidman.
On the occasion of Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday this past March, the Roundabout Theatre Company announced that it would rename its Henry Miller's Theatre, on West 43rd Street in New York City, The Stephen Sondheim Theatre. Tonight, the Roundabout invites the entire Broadway community to celebrate Sondheim as he lights the marquee renamed in his honor.
This evening's ceremony will begin at 6:30 PM at 124 West 43rd Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues. Among the many Broadway luminaries scheduled to appear are Patti LuPone, a frequent Sondheim performer, including in the 2006 Tony Award-winning revival of Sweeney Todd recorded on Nonesuch, and John Weidman, who has written the books for a number of Sondheim shows, most recently Road Show, the cast recording of which Nonesuch released in 2009.

The Sondheim Theatre officially opens on October 26, when performances of The Pee-wee Herman Show, a non-Roundabout production, begin.
