Caetano Veloso’s new album, zii e zie, was released last week on Nonesuch Records. Now comes the start of a six-city US tour, which kicks off at New York City's Terminal 5 tonight. New York NPR affiliate WNYC has chosen tonight's show for its daily Gig Alert, offering a free download of the album track "Sem Cais." WNYC's Alana Harper writes of the tune: "Veloso's easy, sunny vocals and guitar warm up a simple melody before the tune takes a turn into slinky, minimalist funk courtesy of Veloso's backing group." Following a recent performance from Veloso and his zii e zie band in Argentina, the Buenos Aires Herald said the singer was "as radiant as ever." What's more, said Herald reviewer Ana Laura Caruso, "You don’t need to know Portuguese to understand the words but just experience the joy of listening to his songs backed by this eclectic and awesome rock band."
