Carolina Chocolate Drops are set to join The Chieftains this week as the legendary Irish band marks its 50th anniversary and the UK release of its new album, Voice of Ages (Hear Music/Decca), on which Carolina Chocolate Drops perform "Pretty Little Girl" with The Chieftains. Fans in the UK can tune in to Later ... with Jools Holland tonight at 22:00 on BBC Two to see the bands perform together live on the show. Then tune in this Friday at 23:05, for the full, one-hour episode of Later, to see the Chocolate Drops perform an additional song of their own off of their new album, Leaving Eden, released earlier this year on Nonesuch Records. Also on this week's shows are Jack White, Norah Jones, Alabama Shakes, and Grimes.

Two of Carolina Chocolate Drops' fellow Nonesuch artists, Punch Brothers and The Low Anthem, are also featured on Voice of Ages. The album, produced by T Bone Burnett, includes The Chieftains' collaborations with a number of artists whose work they have influenced, including these three groups of Nonesuch artists, Bon Iver, The Civil Wars, The Decemberists, and others. The New York Times calls Voice of Ages "an album of collaborations with some of the hottest young folk, country, bluegrass, rockabilly and indie-rock talents on both sides of the Atlantic." The Guardian calls the Chocolate Drops' track "a romping collaboration."

Carolina Chocolate Drops were part of an all-star celebration of Jonny Cash's 80th birthday at the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas, over the weekend. The group "added their gritty bluegrass sound to 'Jackson,'" Rolling Stone reports, adding this from Ronnie Dunn of Brooks and Dunn: "The Carolina Chocolate Drops just came out of left field for me, and I was so impressed with what they did on 'Jackson.'"
