The Carolina Chocolate Drops have added a special performance to their tour schedule: an Emergency Benefit Concert for Haiti at New York's City Winery this Wednesday with Patti Smith, The Swell Season, John Wesley Harding, Yo La Tengo, Young People’s Choir of New York City, Joshua Bell, and others. Proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders, Partners in Health, and the Jewish Renaissance Medical Center's emergency mobile hospital unit.
The Carolina Chocolate Drops have just added a very special performance to their US tour schedule, now under way: the trio will stop at New York's City Winery this Wednesday for an Emergency Benefit Concert for Haiti, joining Patti Smith, The Swell Season, John Wesley Harding, Yo La Tengo, Young People’s Choir of New York City, Joshua Bell, and others for the first of four fund-raising concerts at the venue.
A full 100% of the funds raised from these benefit events will be directed to Doctors Without Borders, Partners in Health, and an emergency mobile hospital aid mission in Haiti organized by the Jewish Renaissance Medical Center. City Winery is looking to raise $100,000 over the four nights' concerts to help the victims of Haiti’s catastrophic earthquake.

In the UK, where Genuine Negro Jig is due out next week, and where the tour is set to head then as well, the BBC has already described the new album as "extraordinary." Now, The Observer has weighed in, with reviewer Neil Spencer calling it "a more playful, accomplished affair" than past efforts, "applying banjo, fiddle and spoons to antique numbers but also turning Blu Cantrell's R&B hit 'Hit 'Em Up Style' into a backyard stomp." The Independent's Howard Male recognizes the band's "great live reputation" and see Genuine Negro Jig as a collection of tunes that will "further cement this African-American trio's mission to prove that 'old-time music' can still be a vital force."
