(While that's not yet an option, Caetano has grabbed two nominations for his new record, Cê—Best Singer-Songwriter Album and Best Brazilian Song for "Não Me Arrependo" off the album.)

In an e-mail exchange with Gonzalez, Caetano relates the story of his first trip to New York two-and-a-half decades ago, in which he and his eldest son Moreno, then 10, performed a song they had written together. The two remain close collaborators: Moreno, now 35, co-produced the new record, and, according to Caetano, has "brought wisdom and clarity to it all."
In praise of the new album Gonzalez writes: "Cê may be Veloso's 40th record, but he is by no means relying on old formulas ... Veloso's songwriting and voice make music that's delightfully unpredictable."
