David Byrne's American Utopia has joined thirteen other Broadway shows to partner with HeadCount—the non-partisan organization using the power of music to register voters and promote participation in democracy—to promote voter registration in the United States. Although Broadway performances in New York City remain suspended through the remainder of 2020 due to COVID-19, fans can join their favorite shows in making their voices heard at the polls this fall.
Fans across the United States can go to headcount.org to register, check, or update your voter registration status online and find localized information about polling dates, sites, and candidates, and, by doing so, enter to win tickets to see American Utopia and other Broadway shows when performances resume. The contest runs through October 1.
American Utopia had previously hosted a HeadCount voter registration booth in the Hudson Theatre lobby at each performance. The filmed version of the show, directed by Spike Lee, will debut on HBO later this year. The original cast recording, released late last year on Nonesuch Records, is available here.
