Devendra Banhart launches a four-concert tour of Australia with a performance at the Factory Theatre outside Sydney Wednesday night, followed by a show at the Prince Bandroom outside Melbourne Thursday, and two sets at the 25th annual Byron Bay Bluesfest (pictured) this Saturday and Monday. The weekend's sets mark Banhart's Bluesfest debut. Also performing at the festival are Iron and Wine and Dr. John. In May, Banhart joins Rokia Traoré to kick off the Barbican's month-long celebration of Nonesuch at 50.
Devendra Banhart, who made his Nonesuch Records debut with the release of his latest album, Mala, last year, launches a four-concert tour of Australia with a performance at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville outside Sydney Wednesday night, followed by a show at the Prince Bandroom in St. Kilda outside Melbourne Thursday, and two sets at the 25th annual Byron Bay Bluesfest at the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm (pictured above) this Saturday and Monday, both on the Mojo stage. The weekend's sets mark Banhart's Bluesfest debut. Also performing at the festival are Iron and Wine and Dr. John.
Next month, Devendra Banhart joins label mate Rokia Traoré for a performance at the Barbican Hall in London, on Friday, May 2. This "unplugged" evening of recent and past material kicks off Explorations: The Sound of Nonesuch Records, the Barbican's month-long celebration of Nonesuch Records' 50th anniversary. Later this year, Banhart opens for Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds at Celebrate Brooklyn!, July 26, followed by a show with Caetano Veloso and Andrew Bird at the Hollywood Bowl September 21.
