Emmylou Harris, a longtime animal lover and staunch advocate, has teamed up with the animal-rights group PETA to record two new and very timely public service announcements.

In the first, Emmylou aims to raise awareness about the practice of keeping dogs chained outdoors, particularly during the bitter cold of the winter months. She urges listeners to bring their pets indoors, making them a more integral member of the family, for the benefit of both dog and family alike.

The second spot encourages pet owners to spay or neuter their cats and dogs to help ensure that all dogs and cats are cared for. "It breaks my heart knowing that many dogs will never have a loving home and many cats will never have anything to purr about," she intones, offering this simple solution to help: "It's as easy as A-B-C: Animal Birth Control."
