Here Lies Love, the forthcoming collaboration between David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, tells the tale of former Philippine first lady Imelda Marcos through a cadre of vocalists from a myriad musical worlds. Included among such performers as Santigold, Florence Welch (Florence + The Machine), St. Vincent, Natalie Merchant, Cyndi Lauper, Tori Amos, and Sharon Jones, is Los Angeles-based Filipino jazz singer Charmaine Clamor. The Philippine Daily Inquirer's Ruben V. Nepales spoke with Clamor about her career as a singer of so-called "jazzipino" and her performance of the track "Walk Like a Woman" on Here Lies Love.

"I’m thrilled to be in the company of these wonderful female vocalists," Charmaine tells the Inquirer of her fellow album contributors. She goes on to explain how she unexpectedly connected with David Byrne via Nonesuch Records and was asked to appear on Here Lies Love.

"He said he was intrigued by the story of Imelda, what power had done to her mind," she says of her first meeting with Byrne.

Charmaine goes on to explain some of the appeal of the project for her, both its music and the larger context in which it's placed: "I was impressed with the catchy melodies, and more so with the historical accuracy of the lyrics."
