Emmylou Harris's European tour began this past Tuesday with a concert at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall. The Independent finds her voice in "mint condition," admiring "her stately mastery of her art," and noting that Emmylou's obvious pride in her latest album, All I Intended to Be, "is justified, because many of the show's best moments stem from this record." The Herald calls it "a splendid album" and reports that Emmylou is "sounding, and looking, as good as she has ever done."

Emmylou Harris's European tour began this past Tuesday with a concert at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall, with music from her latest release, All I Intended to Be, and throughout her long and varied career. The Independent's David Pollock suggests that Emmylou must have "lived cleanly to have ... maintained a singing voice which endures in such mint condition." He also enjoyed what Emmylou had to say, finding her "an easygoing, languid storyteller, with a tale or a few insightful words to go with each track."

Pollock writes that there was "a lot to love about the 90-minute set" in Glasgow, admiring "her stately mastery of her art" and noting that Emmylou seemed "proudest of songs from her new album All I Intended To Be," to which the reviewer responds: "Her pride is justified, because many of the show's best moments stem from this record; a gorgeous, lingering cover of Tracy Chapman's 'All That You Have Is Your Soul,' for example, or a resonating version of Billy Joe Shaver's 'Old Five and Dimers Like Me.'"

In the Telegraph, reviewer Matthew Magee observes that "Harris is able to wrap a song around her so naturally and empathetically that even the most well-worn melodies can become beguilingly fresh." Even so, he found her "at her best when adding vocal steel to billowing soundscapes and provided a fixed stillness at the heart of the warm, woody accordion and double-bass textures of new song 'Sailing Round the Room' ..."

Stuart Morrison at The Herald calls All I Intended to Be "a splendid album" and reports that Emmylou is "sounding, and looking, as good as she has ever done." At Tuesday's tour opener, he echoes Pollock's sentiments, having found that her "voice was in top form and a track from her new album, Tracy Chapman's 'All That You Have Is Your Soul' was, by some way, the spine-tingling standout."
