Jeremy Denk's new recording of J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations, has earned the top spot on the Billboard Traditional Classical Albums chart. The album, released late last month in the US and is now available internationally, includes a companion DVD with video “liner notes,” in which Denk demonstrates passages on the piano as he explains certain details of the iconic piece. The Wall Street Journal recently praised Denk's performance on the album as "gorgeously and insightfully played" and the DVD as "the kind of fresh thinking of which we can never have too much." The New York Times has remarked on Denk's "profound affinity with Bach," and the Philadelphia Inquirer has called his performance of the Goldberg Variations "mesmerizing." Says NPR: "Once you've entered the Denkian dimension, you won't want to leave."

Denk, whose 2013 fall concert schedule included performances of the Goldberg Variations in Boston, DC, and Chicago, joins the San Francisco Symphony starting Thursday, November 7, for four nights in Davies Hall, to be followed by one at Carnegie Hall and one at the Krannert Center (in Champaign-Urbana) playing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 25 in C Major, K. 503.
