Joshua Redman and his Quartet—Aaron Goldberg on piano, Reuben Rogers on bass, and Gregory Hutchinson on drums—kick off a cross-country tour of the United States with a performance at The Egg in Albany, New York, tonight. In advance of tonight's tour launch, Redman spoke with the Albany Times Union about the show and his latest album, the Brad Mehldau–produced Walking Shadows, released earlier this year on Nonesuch Records.

"As accolades from jazz critic and the public continue to rain down on Redman, he doesn't stand still," writes R.J. DeLuke in the Times Union. "His latest project is an album of ballads, Walking Shadows. It includes selections with precocious strings that support and highlight Redman rich, expressive horn statements."

As for what to expect on the current tour with the Quartet, DeLuke says that "what fans will see is one of the world's great musical minds at work, in a setting that is sure to have moments that surprise even Redman."

DeLuke goes on to say: "The process of discovery is important to Redman, as it the communication and dialog with his fellow musicians. He enjoys not knowing where the musical conversation will go, and the pleasure derived when they are taking place."
