k.d. lang will receive an honorary degree from the University of Alberta at the school's convocation ceremonies this spring, reports the Edmonton Sun, joining the Queen's vice-regal representative, Governor General Michaelle Jean, and other luminaries in receiving the honor. Edmonton, the site of the University, is also k.d.'s place of birth, though she grew up in Consort, Alberta, 300 kilometers southeast.

The ceremony will take place on June 11, just days after k.d. and her band perform at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton and the Epcor Centre in Calgary.
