Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica's Nonesuch recording of the complete Mozart violin concertos has received the Silver Award at the Record Academy Awards published by Japan's The Record Geijutsu. Australia's ABC Radio National's Breakfast has chosen the recording as Album of the Week, saying, "played true to the style of when they were written, the music sounds fresh and appealing."
Gidon Kremer and the Kremerata Baltica's recording of the complete Mozart violin concertos, released earlier this year on Nonesuch, has received the Concerto Division Silver Award in the 47th annual Record Academy Awards in Japan. The winning albums are chosen by a panel of 26 critics and published by the magazine The Record Geijutsu, a tradition going back to 1963. Farther south, Australia's ABC Radio National has chosen the recording as Album of the Week on its Breakfast program with host Fran Kelly. While Mozart may always be a welcome listening experience, Kelly suggest, "sometimes there's a performance of something you know and like that makes you prick up your ears—something is different, and better. That was my experience of Gidon Kremer's interpretation of the complete Mozart violin concertos."
She goes on to commend this album as a "stand out for the 62-year-old's solo lines and his direction of the orchestra. Never staid, ordinary or metronomic, and played true to the style of when they were written, the music sounds fresh and appealing."
