Kronos Quartet will be the featured guests on CBC radio's Q, the daily arts program hosted by Jian Ghomeshi, Wednesday morning. The show airs on CBC Radio 1 in Canada at 10 AM, streaming live online at cbc.ca, and on select public radio stations in the US. Kronos will be joined on the program by pipa virtuoso Wu Man, who also joins the group in the fourth and final concert of its residency at the Luminato Festival in Toronto, Wednesday night at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Performing Arts.

Wednesday night's concert features the Canadian premiere of A Chinese Home, a multimedia piece conceived by the Quartet's Artistic Director David Harrington; Wu Man, who makes her Canadian debut in the performance; and director Chen Shi-Zheng. Also on the program are an excerpt from Tan Dun's Ghost Opera, the Canadian premieres of Rahul Dev Burman's Mehbooba Mehbooba and selections from Terry Riley's The Cusp of Magic, and the world premiere of an arrangement of Philip Glass's Orion: China.

Kronos Quartet's Luminato residency included three concerts this past weekend, beginning Friday night with leading Azerbaijani mugham exponents  Alim Qasimov Ensemble at Koerner Hall; followed by a Saturday night concert there with the Homayun Sakhi Trio, featuring Sakhi on the Afghan rubâb; and a free outdoor concert in David Pecaut Square Sunday night, which the  says "was like a tasting menu of their global-fusion music."

At Sunday's free concert, Kronos "performed with the same intense focus and commitment as they would for a paid concert," says the Toronto Star's John Teraud. "I kept looking out at the crowd of a couple of thousand people from behind the open-air stage. Each listener's attention was as rapt as the performers' ... This is what makes Luminato special."
