Kronos Quartet will be honored by MATA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to commissioning and presenting works by young composers from around the world, in the organization's 15th Annual Benefit Gala at the Tibet House in New York City this Tuesday night. The evening will feature remarks by composers Philip Glass and Steve Reich and by Jennifer Bilfield, artistic and executive director of Stanford Live, as well as performances by Pannonia Quartet and Kronos collaborator/composer Jacob Garchik's The Heavens. A few tickets are still available at matafestival.org for the benefit event, which promises to be a very special evening.

Later this week, Kronos Quartet heads to Iowa City for a performance at the Englert Theatre on Thursday, October 18, before departing for Europe for several performances featuring Steve Reich's WTC 9/11: as part of the Bergamo Scienza festival in Bergamo, Italy, on Sunday, October 21; at the Kodály Centre Concert Hall in Pécs, Hungary, on October 29; and at De Oosterpoort in Groningen, Netherlands on October 31.

Kronos then heads to Uppsala, Sweden, for a performance at the Uppsala International Sacred Music Festival with a live radio broadcast on November 2 that includes Vladimir Martynov's The Beatitudes, which can be heard on the Quartet's latest Nonesuch release, Music of Vladimir Martynov, followed by a November 3 performance for the Oslo World Music Festival, which features Donnacha Dennehy's One Hundred Goodbyes and marks the first Kronos performance in Oslo, Norway, in a dozen years.
