Kronos Quartet helped close out the opening day of the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park on Friday night with a flourish: the group joined the band The National for the penultimate set of the evening (pictured at left with the Grateful Dead's Bob Weir, who joined for a song), before returning to the stage for the closing act, Sir Paul McCartney, for his encore, a performance of "Yesterday."
"We're unbelievably honored to have had the chance to join Sir Paul McCartney onstage at Outside Lands Music Festival last night for his encore," says Kronos Quartet.
Rolling Stone's Benjy Eisen reports that McCartney was "the second act of the day to employ the local Kronos Quartet, using them to augment 'Yesterday' in a rendition that moved virtually every single person in the field, including security guards and food vendors."
