Laurie Anderson, Philip Glass, John Zorn, and Lou Reed will be among the artists performing at the Concert for Japan, a 12-hour event on April 9 presented by NYC's Japan Society to benefit organizations that directly help people affected by the earthquake and tsunamis that struck Japan. Additional activities will be available for all ages, including making paper cranes and washi lanterns for good luck, basic Japanese language classes, and access to the exhibit Bye Bye Kitty!!!. All proceeds will go to Japan Society's Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.
Laurie Anderson, Philip Glass, John Zorn, Lou Reed, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Hal Willner will be among the artists performing at the Concert for Japan, a 12-hour marathon event on Saturday, April 9, presented by Japan Society in New York City to benefit organizations that directly help people affected by the earthquake and tsunamis that struck Japan. With dozens of music acts and performances throughout the day beginning at 11 AM, all of the artists above will perform at 1 PM, except Sakamoto, who will perform at 6 PM.
In addition to the performances, special activities will be available for all ages, from making paper cranes and washi lanterns for good luck, to basic Japanese language classes, to unlimited access to the Japan Society exhibit Bye Bye Kitty!!!, featuring 16 emerging and mid-career artists whose paintings, objects, photographs, videos, and installations meld traditional styles with challenging visions of Japan’s troubled present and uncertain future.
A full 100% of the admission sales from this event will go to the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund established by Japan Society. The concert replaces the previously announced j-Cation 2011: Beyond Cute event scheduled as part of Carnegie Hall's ongoing JapanNYC, a citywide festival led by Artistic Director Seiji Ozawa.
