Laurie Anderson is in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this week for the opening of a new exhibition at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB) titled I in U (Eu em Tu). The retrospective show, created exclusively for the CCBB, presents a set of original works produced by Anderson from the 1970s to today, featuring installations, photographs, drawings, videos, music, and documentations of performances. Anderson's short film Hidden Inside Mountains was screened last night at Symphony Space as part of the Cutting Edge Concerts series. Anderson originally created the film for Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan. New York Times music critic Allan Kozinn, reviewing last night's concert, says: "The score, an affecting electronic work for Ms. Anderson’s electric violin, percussion, keyboards, bass, voices and effects, is accompanied by beautiful but mystifying imagery and short bursts of text ... in Ms. Anderson’s quirky, aphoristic style." Laurie Anderson returns to New York City in time for the April 9 Concert for Japan, presented by Japan Society. The 12-hour marathon event will feature performances by Anderson, Philip Glass, John Zorn, Lou Reed, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Hal Willner, and others, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Japan Earthquake Releif Fund, which will benefit organizations that directly help people affected by the earthquake and tsunamis that struck Japan.
