Gaby Moreno is the guest on the latest episode of the Pili, Raúl, and La Música podcast. She joined hosts Pili Montilla and DJ Raúl Campos as well as a live audience in Los Angeles to discuss growing up in Guatemala, an inspiring childhood trip to the United States, and her life in music, including her new album, ¡Spangled!, a collaboration with American musician, songwriter, arranger, and producer Van Dyke Parks. ¡Spangled! was released late last year on Nonesuch and made NPR’s list of the best Latin music of 2019. The ten-song set celebrates the migration of song across the Americas over the span of more than a century, including a bolero from Panama, a bossa nova from Brazil, a song by Moreno, Trinidadian songwriter David Rudder's "The Immigrants," and an elegiac ballad from the Southwest US: Ry Cooder, John Hiatt, and Jim Dickinson’s “Across the Borderline,” performed with Cooder and Jackson Browne.
