Kronos Quartet and Rhiannon Giddens have shared their recording of her "Lullaby," arranged by Punch Brothers' Gabe Witcher, from the new album Folk Songs, due June 9. You can hear it here. On the album, Kronos joins forces with labelmates Giddens, Sam Amidon, Olivia Chaney, and Natalie Merchant to perform mostly traditional tunes with contemporary arrangements. "Lullaby" is available to download now with pre-orders of Folk Songs, along with the previously released track "The Butcher's Boy," featuring Merchant.

Rhiannon Giddens recently closed out Lincoln Center's American Songbook season with a performance of songs from her new solo album, Freedom Highway, at Alice Tully Hall in New York that Billboard called "a stirring evening of music showcasing her glorious voice and deep-rooted interest in social issues past and present," and the New York Times' Paul Krugman called "one of the best concerts of my life." Giddens resumes her tour in June. Kronos Quartet returned from a tour in Europe earlier this week and picks up its US tour with a performance at the Los Angeles Contemporary Music of Art (LACMA) on June 8. Sam Amidon releases his own solo album, The Following Mountain, tomorrow. Natalie Merchant releases a 10-CD box set, The Natalie Merchant Collection, comprising her eight solo studio albums, a new studio set, and a rarities disc, on June 23. And Olivia Chaney has joined with The Decemberists for a new project, Offa Rex, which releases its debut album, The Queen of Hearts, on July 14. All of these album are available to pre-order in the Nonesuch Store.

    Congratulations to Kronos Quartet, whose acclaimed 1992 Nonesuch album Pieces of Africa has been named one of twenty-five recordings to be inducted into the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress for 2024. "It planted a seed for our work," Kronos founder and violinist David Harrington says of the album. "It's flowered so beautifully."
