Laurie Anderson talks with Merrill Garbus (aka tUnE-yArDs), for the latest episode of The Talkhouse Music Podcast. "By turns funny and poignant, and always insightful," says The Talkhouse, "the conversation between these two creative powerhouses ranges from coping with sudden fame, 'the art police,' the healing power of puppetry, their love/hate relationship with technology, the aesthetics of bubble gum, dehydrated kale bars and… hotel hotdogs."

At one point in the conversation, Anderson mentions Nonesuch Records label mate Robert Plant and his performance last week with his band The Sensational Space Shifters at the month-long Nonesuch Records at BAM celebration of the label's 50th anniversary. (Anderson performed in the series as well, joined by Kronos Quartet for five nights of her piece Landfall.)

"He did such an amazing job at the Nonesuch festival," she says of Plant. "It was amazing. He's a genuine music lover: he loves blues, he loves ancient rock 'n' roll, and folk songs ... Here's a guy who went through the classic rock scene, and here he resurfaces as an intensely interesting musician with a wonderful sound ... [The band is] just wonderful, all of them. They sink into that groove in a way that's so organic ... Those parts came out of them. They originated them."

Anderson joins Kronos Quartet for performances of Landfall at the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, Ohio, this Saturday, and at Bass Concert Hall in Austin, Texas, on Tuesday.
