Björk unveils another piece of Biophilia with a look inside the Ultimate Edition of the forthcoming album. Presented in a lacquered and silkscreened oak hinged-lid case, the Biophilia Ultimate Edition consists of the Biophilia Manual along with 10 chrome-plated tuning forks, silkscreened on one face in 10 different colors, stamped at the back, with each fork adjusted to the tone of a Biophilia track, covering a complete octave in a non-conventional scale. Björk continues to unveil elements of her Biophilia project, with a look inside the Ultimate Edition of the forthcoming album from One Little Indian / Nonesuch Records, due out September 27. It follows Tuesday's premiere of the music video for the album track "Crystalline" from groundbreaking director and longtime Björk collaborator Michel Gondry, which the Los Angeles Times calls "gorgeous"; SPIN says that for all the pair's unforgettable collaborations, this "may be their most visually striking one yet."
Speaking of visually striking imagery from Björk, new photos are now available of the Biophilia Ultimate Edition, taken by photographer Will Thom, showcasing a prototype of the custom-made piece. As the pictures at left and below show, the Ultimate Edition, presented in a lacquered and silkscreened oak hinged-lid case, consists of the Biophilia Manual—the album on CD, plus a second disc of live performances from Manchester, in a 48-page, full-color, hardbound, cloth-covered, and thread-sewn book, tipped on lenticular panel to the front cover, with foil-blocked spine and back cover—along with 10 chrome-plated tuning forks, silkscreened on one face in 10 different colors, stamped at the back, and presented in a flocked tray. Each fork is adjusted to the tone of a Biophilia track, covering a complete octave in a non-conventional scale:

The Manual, which includes essays by Nikki Dibben, design and drawings by M/M (Paris), and photography by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin and M/M (Paris), is removed from the case by means of a ribbon pull. Each case comes with an individual numbered certificate detailing the use of tuning forks. Print production coordination comes from Daniel Mason, with manufacturing by Something Else. The Biophilia Ultimate Edition will be made to order and fabricated only once. Orders must be collected before August 12.
