Wilco returns to the road this weekend, beginning a 10-day tour of the Iberian peninsula with Saturday night's show at the Tenerife Auditorium in Tenerife, Spain. On Monday, the band plays a sold-out show at Teatro Cervantes in Malaga. It's the first of two sold-out shows with Akron/Family opening. After playing shows in both Spain and Portugal, Wilco returns to the States for more than a month of tour dates, beginning June 12 at the Aronoff Center for the Arts in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Amadou & Mariam play a very special "Hidden Gig" benefit concert for Crisis, the UK charity for the homeless, at an as-of-yet undisclosed location in London on Monday. They'll be joined for the event by Pink Floyd's David Gilmour in what the organization describes as "an intimate converted church in central London," with specific details to be e-mailed to ticketholders 24 hours before the gig.

Time Out New York recently listed the duo in its summer concert preview, writing: "Theirs is a joyful, celebratory attitude that’s taken the pair from homeland celebrity to global superstardom. Plus, this year’s Welcome to Mali is as irresistibly rockin’ a party record as you could hope to find, featuring contributions from Gorillaz man Damon Albarn and kora maestro Toumani Diabaté."

Amadou & Mariam begin their headlining tour of North America at Park West in Chicago on June 2. They take up a second leg of their tour on the West Coast in July, opening for Coldplay.

Dan Auerbach is in the midst of a short tour of the Benelux countries this week, including a concert last night at the Dauwpop Festival in Hellendoorm, Netherlands, playing the AB Box in Brussels Friday, followed by two more shows in the Netherlands: at Vera in Groningen on Saturday and at Melkweg in Amsterdam on Sunday.

Christina Courtin is joining The Knights chamber orchestra in a concert with Dawn Upshaw, who is making her Irish premiere, at the National Gallery of Ireland's Shaw Room in Dublin on Saturday. The Knights perform works by Bach, Glass, and Copland and join Upshaw for songs by Stephen Sondheim (including "What More Do I Need" from his first musical, Saturday Night), Osvaldo Golijov, Leonard Bernstein, and Richard Rodgers. In an extensive profil of Upshaw in the Irish Times, writer Michael Dervan explains, "In Upshaw’s National Gallery concert this weekend, Golijov’s work rubs
shoulders with that of Bernstein, Rodgers and Sondheim. And bridging
the gap between Broadway and the repertoire of the typical classical
song recital is something Upshaw carries off with unusual success."

Bill Frisell plays the second of a two-night, four-set run last night at the Regatta Bar in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with the 858 Quartet, featuring Hank Roberts, Jenny Scheinman, and Eyvind Kang, tonight. On Saturday, the Quartet heads to Piermont, New York, for a night at the Turning Point. On Sunday, the group is in Jacksonville, Florida, for a free performance at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival.

Allen Toussaint's residency at the Village Vanguard with The Bright Mississippi band continues through Sunday. The New York Times, in its review of Tuesday's opener, writes: "New Orleans was in every phrase, with hints of swing, of humor, of sly sensuality ... It wasn’t a re-creation of old New Orleans music but a reverie on a New Orleans heritage: a lifetime of memories refined by a genteel sensibility that finds the elegance in the blues." Wednesday night's set is now streaming at npr.orgm which called it "an intimate, graceful and eminently enjoyable jazz show."
