The worldwide celebrations of Steve Reich's 75th birth year come to New York this weekend with Music of Steve Reich, an all-Reich concert at Carnegie Hall Saturday night featuring the New York City premiere of his latest piece, WTC 9/11, performed by Kronos Quartet, for whom he wrote the piece. Also on the program are the area premieres of Mallet Quartet and 2x5 and a performance of Reich's Pulitzer Prize-winning piece Double Sextet. In addition to Kronos Quartet, performers include Bang on a Can All-Stars and Friends, with Glenn Kotche; eighth blackbird; and So Percussion.
On Sunday night, (Le) Poisson Rouge in Greenwich Village hosts a screening of Phase to Face, the 2009 documentary on Reich's music, with a Q+A with the composer and the film's director, Eric Darmon.

Laurie Anderson emcees Poetry: The Second Skin at the 92nd Street Y's Unterberg Poetry Center in New York City, as part of the PEN World Voices Festival. Anderson has curated the event, which explores the porous borders between poetry and music. The multimedia event showcases the talents of a unique line-up of poets from Scotland, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Israel, Germany, Georgia, Poland, Denmark, and the US, along with surprise guests. The PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature, chaired by Salman Rushdie, is taking place all this week in New York City.
On Saturday, Anderson performs her Transitory Life at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, New York, for Soundout for Scholarships, a concert to benefit Woodstock Day School.

Timothy Andres's music is the focus of the Keyed Up Music Project performance at the Tenri Cultural Institute in New York on Saturday. Andres will be joined by fellow pianist Marc Peloquin for a performance of excerpts from his Nonesuch debut album, Shy and Mighty, along with works by Ives and Mahler.
