Shawn Colvin closes out her August tour with two Midwest dates this weekend. She performs at the Festival Theatre in Saint Croix, Wisconsin, tonight. And on Saturday, The Morton Arboretum, outside of Chicago, will play host to "two of the loveliest folk voices in show business," says Chicago's ABC7, when Shawn joins Nanci Griffith for the Arboretum's In Tune with Trees outdoor concert series to benefit the center's efforts. Shawn's last studio album, These Four Walls, her 2006 Nonesuch debut, "beautifully illustrates the human experience through story and song," says the ABC station. Next up are three East Coast dates at the end of September.

As reported earlier this week, the Carolina Chocolate Drops begin an extensive tour of the States tonight at Rams Head Live in Baltimore. On Saturday, the band heads into Washington, DC, to perform a free show at the Outdoor Welcome Plaza of the National Museum of the American Indian. It's part of the museum's Indian Summer Showcase titled The Blues: Roots, Branches, and Beyond.

The Bill Frisell Trio, featuring Tony Scherr and Kenny Wollesen, performs in the Manistee National Forest in Hoxeyville, Michigan, this Saturday as part of the Hoxeyville Music Festival. Looking to next week, Bill begins a two-week residency at the Village Vanguard in New York City with Paul Motian and Joe Lovano on Tuesday.

Allen Toussaint takes the stage in New York at the Lincoln Center Out of Doors free concert series Saturday afternoon. It's the 26th Annual Roots of American Music concert, titled In the Spirit of Odetta. He'll be on the opposite coast the next afternoon for the Vancouver Wine & Jazz Festival on Sunday.

Sara Watkins performed earlier this week in New York City and up in Londonderry, New Hampshire, with her supergroup-of-sorts Works Progress Administration. After the New York set at Joe's Pub, the New York Times called her "the most commanding vocalist" of the night. Tonight, she'll headline with her solo set Lake Superior Big Top in Bayfield, Wisconsin, with Blue Canvas performing as well.

Wilco continues its tour along the European festival circuit, hitting three more this weekend: it's the Highfield Festival at the Hohenfelden Reservoir in Erfurt-Hohenfelden, Germany, tonight; Lowlands Festival at Walibi World in Biddinghuizen, Netherlands, on Saturday; and Green Man Festival at Glanusk Park in Brecon Beacons, Wales. While in UK and Ireland, the band will set off on three dates, with Blitzen Trapper opening, one in London, and two in Dublin by the end of the week. That will mark the end of the European tour; US dates with Liam Finn supporting are set to begin at the start of October. Fans in the States can catch the band on this weekend's episode of CBS Sunday Morning!
