Julia Bullock joins the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and conductor Jacob Joyce to perform Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 at the Hilbert Circle Theatre in Indianapolis tonight and Saturday. The piece is featured on Bullock’s debut solo album, Walking in the Dark, released in December on Nonesuch. BBC Radio 3’s Record Review presenter Andrew McGregor, naming it this week's Record of the Week, says: “Julia Bullock has the kind of effortless, immediacy of communication that emphasizes the radiant simplicity of Barber’s writing … Bullock is equal to everything here, the expressive power and range and truth of her singing leaving an indelible impression.”
