Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway bring music from their critically acclaimed new album, City of Gold, to Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington, tonight, in support of Dave Matthews Band. Dave Matthews is a featured guest on the City of Gold track “Yosemite,” the video for which may be seen here. "With City of Gold, Molly Tuttle continues her ascent," writes PopMatters, declaring it "one of the year's best albums." American Songwriter, in its four-star review, calls the album an "astute blend of bluegrass and Americana ... this City of Gold shines bright indeed." "A vibrant blend of bluegrass with flashes of Old West, anchored by Tuttle's earthy-yet-angelic vocal and the entire group's ace musicianship," says Billboard. Bandcamp Daily, including the album on its list of “The Best Country Music on Bandcamp: July 2023,” writes: “At this point, Tuttle and Golden Highway are must-hear attractions.”

Sam Amidon is the special guest of Nickel CreekChris Thile, Sara Watkins, and Sean Watkins—at Paradiso in Amsterdam on Saturday. Amidon performed live from West Kerry, Ireland, for Other Voices’ Anam: Songs for Hearts and Minds earlier this year; you can watch that performance of "Spanish Merchant's Daughter," a song from his 2020 self-titled album, here. Nickel Creek’s album A Dotted Line was released on Nonesuch in 2014.

Timo Andres is in New Mexico this weekend for a series of concerts presented by Chatter, starting with a performance at Chatter’s warehouse space in downtown Albuquerque tonight. He is joined by fellow pianist Judith Gordon for a program that includes solo piano works from the 2020 Nonesuch album I Still Play—an album of original solo piano compositions written by artists who have recorded for Nonesuch performed by Andres and others—as well as John Adams’s Hallelujah Junction, Nathan Felix’s Texas Skies, and excerpts from Andres’ own 2010 Nonesuch Records debut album, Shy and Mighty, which the New Yorker lauded for achieving “an unhurried grandeur that has rarely been felt in American music since John Adams came on the scene.”

Andres then heads north to join clarinetist James Shields, cellist Felix Fan, and violinists David Felberg and Emily Cole at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Santa Fe on Saturday morning, for performances of his Tooth and Claw and Three Suns, as well as Brahms’ Trio in A minor for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano, op. 114. They bring the program back to the Albuquerque warehouse on Sunday morning.

---

Joachim Cooder, joined by fiddler Rayna Gellert and bassist Mark Fain, plays Hawk's Well Theatre in Sligo, Ireland, tonight. Cooder’s 2020 Nonesuch album, Over That Road I'm Bound, on which Gellert performs, is “warm, uplifting, and quietly spectacular,” says Uncut. Mojo calls it “a buoyant and joyful long-player.”

---

Pianist Richard Goode gives a solo recital at The Olivier Music Barn at Tippet Rise Art Center in Fishtail, Montana, tonight, with a program that includes Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 8 in A Minor, Gabriel Faure’s Barcarolle No. 3 in G-flat Major and Nocturne No. 6 in D-flat Major, and Chopin’s Piano Sonata No. 3 in B Minor. The San Francisco Examiner-Chronicle describes one of Goode’s recordings of Mozart’s piano concertos with Orpheus Chamber Orchestra as “marked by grace, beauty and formidable intelligence” and applauds the "exploratory, spontaneous charge" he brings to Chopin’s music.

---

Emmylou Harris performs at Renfro Valley Entertainment Center’s New Barn Theatre in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, on Saturday, and on the Earl Scruggs Music Festival’s Flint Hill stage at Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, North Carolina, on Sunday. Harris's album Stumble Into Grace, which turns 20 this year, was released on vinyl for the first time earlier this spring in a limited cream-colored vinyl edition. On this, her second album of original material, following her Nonesuch debut album, Red Dirt Girl, Harris is joined by guests like Linda Ronstadt, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Gillian Welch, Jane Siberry, Buddy Miller, Daniel Lanois, and Malcolm Burn, who produced the record. Newsweek declared: “Her stellar voice takes on new depth when tied to songs this personal.”

---

Makaya McCraven plays a free show at Millennium Park’s Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago on Saturday, for Chicago Jazz Festival. McCraven, who recently won the Deutscher Jazzpreis for International Drums/Percussion, released his new album, In These Times, last fall, making several year's best album lists, including those of Pitchfork (“a high-water mark”), NPR Music's Nate Chinen (“the culmination of a years-long experiment in groove ... just might be Makaya McCraven's manifesto”), and Treble (“McCraven's masterwork”).
