The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, which began yesterday and continues through July 9, features performances from Makaya McCraven, Jeff Parker, and Cécile McLorin Salvant this weekend.
Percussionist, composer and producer McCraven and guitarist Parker are joined by vibraphonist and marimba player Joel Ross and trumpeter Marquis Hill—all of whom perform on McCraven’s upcoming album, In These Times—in a set at Gesù in Montreal tonight. McCraven will then perform with saxophonist Ravi Coltrane at Gesù on Saturday. In These Times is due September 16 on International Anthem / Nonesuch / XL Recordings; the first single, “Seventh String,” is out now.
Cécile McLorin Salvant performs songs from her new album, Ghost Song, at Monument-National for the festival on Saturday.

Hurray for the Riff Raff concludes their two-month US tour performing songs from their new album, LIFE ON EARTH, as special guest of Bright Eyes with two shows at The Admiral in Conor Oberst’s hometown of Omaha, Nebraska, on Saturday and Sunday. Hurray for the Riff Raff leads a headline tour in August.

k.d. lang’s BBC Four Sessions set from 2008 receives an encore broadcast tonight, on Canada Day. For the concert, lang joined a 30-strong strings section from the BBC Concert Orchestra at St Luke’s in London to perform music from throughout her career, including songs from Ingenue, Hymns of the 49th Parallel, and her then newly released album Watershed.

Molly Tuttle and her band Golden Highway perform songs from their Nonesuch debut album, Crooked Tree, at the High Sierra Music Festival in Quincy, California, on Saturday.
“It was a flat-out picking fest,” the Arts Fuse says of their recent concert in Cambridge. “Tuttle’s blazingly fast and incredibly meticulous playing put a shine on everything she performed. As a band leader she gave wide berth to the others, making room for spotlight solos and opportunities for the musicians to take off in pairs and engage in volleys.”

Wilco concludes its month-long European tour in Beuningen, Netherlands, tonight for the Down the Rabbit Hole Festival. The band returns to the road in the US in August.
