The ten-day Ottawa Jazz Festival kicks off today with performances by two Nonesuch artists: Punch Brothers at Confederation Park, showcasing their new album Hell on Church Street, a reimagining of and homage to the late bluegrass great Tony Rice’s landmark solo album Church Street Blues; and Cécile McLorin Salvant at the National Arts Centre Studio, featuring her Nonesuch debut album Ghost Song. Emmylou Harris performs in Confederation Park as part of the festival this Tuesday.

Punch Brothers return south of the 49th parallel for a set at the Blue Ox Music Festival in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on Saturday, which will be livestreamed via the festival’s YouTube channel.

John Adams's piano concerto Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes? is being given its San Francisco premiere by the San Francisco Symphony with pianist Víkingur Ólafsson and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen at Davies Symphony Hall last night, tonight, and Saturday. The piece was given its world premiere by the Los Angeles Philharonic, pianist Yuja Wang, and conductor Gustavo Dudamel in 2019; their Deutsche Grammophon recording is included in the forty-disc box set John Adams: Collected Works, due out on Nonesuch next Friday.

Joachim Cooder gives his second of two performances in Hawaii this week with a concert at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea, Hawaii, on Saturday. Cooder, who recently joined Ry Cooder and Taj Mahal in performing songs from their new album, GET ON BOARD, in San Francisco, announced several of his own shows in the coming months, in California, Georgia, and Tennessee.
