Guitarist/composer Mary Halvorson performs songs from her just-released Nonesuch debut albums, Amaryllis and Belladonna, with the musicians who perform with her on the albums—Mivos Quartet, Patricia Brennan (vibraphone), Nick Dunston (bass), Tomas Fujiwara (drums), Jacob Garchik (trombone), and Adam O’Farrill (trumpet)—at Jimmy's Jazz and Blues Club in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, tonight and at Festival International Musique Actuelle Victoriaville in Quebec on Saturday.

"Halvorson’s current double release, Amaryllis and Belladonna, shows how far this single-minded original has come, and affords a glimpse of how far she may go," the Guardian says, in its five-star Jazz Album of the Month review. "Both sessions confirm how years of jaggedly lyrical solo and ensemble improvising and a quirkily subversive affection for mainstream music have now nurtured a composer of unpredictable but warmly expressive character … These are new landmarks in Halvorson’s already inimitable discography."

---

Jeremy Denk performs the first book of Bach’s Well Tempered Clavier and reads from his new book, Every Good Boy Does Fine, at St Swithin’s Church in Bath, England, on Saturday afternoon as part of the Bath Festival.

---

Rhiannon Giddens will give a lecture with musical performances titled Digging for Musical Roots at The Richmond Forum in Richmond, Virginia, on Sunday. Omar, the opera Giddens wrote with Michael Abels, receives its world premiere at the Spoleto Festival next weekend.

---

Tigran Hamasyan and his trio—bassist Matt Brewer and drummer Justin Brown—perform songs from his new album, StandArt, at Müpa Budapest’s Béla Bartók National Concert Hall in Budapest, Hungary, tonight. StandArt—Hamasyan’s first album of American standards—includes songs from the 1920s through the 1950s, by Richard Rodgers, Charlie Parker, Jerome Kern, David Raksin, and others.

---

Emmylou Harris performs at The Momentary in Bentonville, Arkansas as part of the FreshGrass festival tonight.

---

Hurray for the Riff Raff, who kicked off a tour as special guest of Bright Eyes this week, heads to Texas with Conor Oberst and the band this weekend for concerts at The Factory in Deep Ellum in Dallas on Friday, Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater on Saturday, and at White Oak Music Hall Lawn in Houston on Sunday. Hurray for the Riff Raff performs songs from their recently released Nonesuch debut album, LIFE ON EARTH, which Uncut calls “a major step forward for one of today's most vital artists.”

---

Gabriel Kahane began the second leg of his tour featuring music from his new album, Magnificent Bird, this week and continues with concerts at Constellation in Chicago on Saturday and at Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor on Sunday. The tour concludes with concerts in Nashville and Columbus next week. Mojo calls Magnificent Bird "a most eloquent exploration of our current lot." The San Francisco Chronicle calls it "a gorgeous, intimate collection ... glistening and magical."

---

Kronos Quartet performs at Ehrenhof in Ludwigsburg Palace in Ludwigsburg, Germany, on Saturday. On the program are works by Angélique Kidjo, Aleksandra Vrebalov, Terry Riley, Philip Glass, and others, which Kronos will perform with student quartets. The European tour continues at the Bergen International Festival in Norway next week.

---

Lake Street Dive performs at Hartwood Acres in Pittsburgh on Saturday as part of the Maple House Music + Arts Festival. The band heads to upstate New York for three concerts next weekend.

---

Jeff Parker concludes his run of concerts with Lee Ranaldo with two shows this weekend: at Thing in Spring in Keene, New Hampshire, on Saturday and (Le) Poisson Rouge in New York City on Sunday. Parker’s latest album, Forfolks, is "a beautifully freewheeling, guitar-driven expression of joy and musical exploration," says Guitar World, "a masterpiece of improvisation."

---

Caroline Shaw and Attacca Quartet perform works by Shaw at Swarovski Kristallwelten in Wattens, Austria, tonight as part of Musik im Riesen. They return to the United States and perform together again in Maryland next weekend. Shaw and Attacca’s 2019 album, Orange, won the Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music / Small Ensemble Performance.
