Olivia Chaney performs songs from her new album, Shelter, in a headline show at Kings Place in London on Saturday. Shelter was released on Nonesuch in June to rave reviews, with the Observer giving the album four stars and calling it “a finely wrought piece of work, with Chaney’s swooping delivery turning songs into dramas. An elegant, luminous album.” The Daily Mirror calls it “a triumph,” and fRoots placed it on the magazine’s Album Choice list earlier this week.

Composer Louis Andriessen’s De Staat is performed by the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, led by Etienne Siebens, at Warsaw Philharmonic Concert Hall on Saturday, as part of the Warsaw Autumn Festival.
Nonesuch released a recording of De Staat, performed by the Schoenberg Ensemble and conductor Reinbert De Leeuw, in 1991, the first of many Andriessen albums on the label. The Guardian has praised the piece for “bringing together the spectrum of his musical and political thinking.” The New York Times calls it “a Minimalist classic.”

David Byrne takes his American Utopia world tour to Florida this weekend, playing the Walt Disney Theater in Orlando tonight and sold-out shows at The Fillmore in Miami Beach on Saturday and Mahaffey Theater in Tampa on Sunday.
The tour, which NME says “may just be the best live show of all time,” has been shortlisted for a Q Award for Best Live Act. Folks can cast their votes and choose the winners now through Friday, October 5, at qthemusic.com.

Pianist Richard Goode gives a solo recital at Da Camera at Wortham Theater Center in Houston on Saturday, performing works by Chopin, Haydn, Mozart, and Janáček. He is also joined by the venue’s artistic director and fellow pianist Sarah Rothenberg for a performance of Schubert’s Fantasy in F Minor for piano four-hands.
The New York Times has praised Goode for his “fastidious musicianship, infallible fingers, warming spirit and vital connection to the living traditions set down by his predecessors.”

Paul Thomas Anderson's latest film, Phantom Thread, which features an Academy Award–nominated score by Jonny Greenwood, premieres on HBO this Saturday. The film, set in the glamour of 1950s post-war London, stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Lesley Manville, and Vicky Krieps. The soundtrack includes eighteen compositions by Greenwood and was recorded in London with a sixty-piece string orchestra led by Robert Ziegler. IndieWire calls it "a masterpiece," naming it the year's best, and one of the century's best as well. The vinyl edition contains two 140-gram LPs and a 24-page special booklet with Greenwood's score.

Lake Street Dive concludes the current leg of its North American Free Yourself Up tour this weekend, playing a set at Stephens Lake Park in Columbia, Missouri, tonight, for Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival, and a headlining show at Levitt Shell in Memphis on Saturday.
The band performs at O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire in London on October 11, before returning to the States at the end of the month for a run of dates through the end of the year, including two concerts at New York City’s Beacon Theatre.

Robert Plant and his band the Sensational Space Shifters conclude their fall US tour, featuring music from Plant's latest album, Carry Fire, with three shows at Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, with Lucinda Williams performing as special guest on all three dates.
Plant and the band will perform in Cardiff, London, and Dublin in late October, the latter two a double bill with Van Morrison.
