Pat Metheny, fresh off a month-long tour of the United States with bassist Larry Grenadier, launches a 30-city European tour this weekend with Grenadier and fellow Pat Metheny Trio member Bill Stewart, on drums. This is the first time in nearly a dozen years that the Trio behind the albums Pat Metheny Trio 99>00 and Trio Live will have toured Europe. The six-week tour begins this Saturday at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, Bulgaria, and will include stops in Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Hungary, Germany, France, Switzerland, Poland, Croatia, Italy, Spain, Israel, Turkey, and Greece. Songs from Metheny's latest Nonesuch release, What's It All About—which features Metheny's solo acoustic take on classic tunes from songwriters like Paul Simon, Lennon & McCartney, Burt Bacharach, and Henry Mancini—were included in the recent US duo tour with Grenadier, along with new material and favorites from throughout Metheny's catalog.
