Punch Brothers bring their US tour to Charlottesville, Virginia, tonight for the start of a ten-day stretch through the South. And to kick things off right, opening tonight's show is Christina Courtin, who begins her own tour with Mike Doughty. The Columbus Dispatch says Punch Brothers' set last Saturday "offered plenty of moments of pure aural pleasure."
After a weekend of shows in the Midwest, Punch Brothers bring their US tour to Charlottesville, Virginia, where tonight's show at the Jefferson Theater marks the start of a ten-day stretch through the South, taking the band through Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Kentucky. And to kick things off right, opening for the band tonight is Nonesuch label mate Christina Courtin.
Following the Punch Brothers' Saturday-night show at the Lincoln Theatre in Columbus, Ohio, the Columbus Dispatch says: "The band swings like mad and sometimes rocks like crazy." Reviewer Curtis Schieber says the set "not only offered plenty of moments of pure aural pleasure but left intense anticipation for the new album," the band's forthcoming follow-up to its 2008 Nonesuch debut, Punch.
For Courtin, tonight's show is the first of more than a month of scheduled tour dates, many in support of singer-songwriter Mike Doughty as he makes his way through the Southwest and California. After the last of Courtin's scheduled tour dates, she will make her way to Austin, Texas, for the South by Southwest Music Conference, where she's due to perform at St. David's Sanctuary just before fellow New Yorker Suzanne Vega takes the stage.
