Randy Newman, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month, was a guest on NPR's Talk of the Nation yesterday. He spoke with host Neal Conan about his career in music, his songwriting process, writing for film scores, and more. Listeners of the show wrote in to pick their favorite Randy Newman tune. Their choice: "Political Science." The 28th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be presented on HBO on Saturday, May 18, at 9 PM ET/PT. The 28th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which took place at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles on April 18, will be presented on HBO on Saturday, May 18, at 9 PM ET/PT. Randy Newman was inducted into the Hall of Fame by Don Henley and gave a performance with Jackson Browne, John Fogerty, and Tom Petty at the ceremony. Three of Newman's fellow inductees—Heart, Public Enemy, and Rush—performed as well. The ceremony also honored Albert King and Donna Summer, as well as Lou Adler and Quincy Jones, this year’s recipients of the Ahmet Ertegun Award for Lifetime Achievement. Randy Newman will perform live in concert at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey, on June 14 as part of the organization's gala celebration of film.     Congratulations to Kronos Quartet, whose acclaimed 1992 Nonesuch album Pieces of Africa has been named one of twenty-five recordings to be inducted into the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress for 2024. "It planted a seed for our work," Kronos founder and violinist David Harrington says of the album. "It's flowered so beautifully."
