Congratulation to Randy Newman, who is due to receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this morning. The ceremony will take place at 6667 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, where Newman's star will become the 2,411st on the Walk of Fame. Pixar's John Lasseter, who directed the first two Toy Story films to which Newman contributed music and is executive producer of the forthcoming third film, is slated to speak at the event, as is Monty Python's Eric Idle.

Newman recently concluded a tour of Europe that included a set at London's Royal Festival Hall described by the Independent as "riveting." The Independent's Ben Walsh, in his four-star review, says of Newman, "as a lyricist he's right up there with Cohen, Lennon and Dylan."

A musical stage production titled after Newman's latest Nonesuch release, Harps and Angels, is currently in the works under Broadway director Jerry Zaks and is scheduled to premiere at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles this fall.
