Rhiannon Giddens, who could be seen on PBS stations across the United States on Friday performing in Bill Murray's Mark Train Prize ceremony at The Kennedy Center, will perform at Alice Tully Hall in New York City on May 13, 2017, as part of Lincoln Center's American Songbook series. The acclaimed series returns for its 18th season of celebrating American singing and songwriting with 16 concerts in The Appel Room in February and March, and then moves to Alice Tully Hall for a Sutton Foster show on April 14 and Giddens's season-closing concert on May 13.

The release of Rhiannon Giddens’s solo album, Tomorrow Is my Turn, on Nonesuch in 2015 garnered ecstatic praise from critics. Covering songs made famous by Patsy Cline, Odetta, Dolly Parton, and Nina Simone the co-founder of new roots Grammy Award‒winning band the Carolina Chocolate Drops (who appeared in American Songbook 2011) broke new ground with what the Los Angeles Times called “a collection that should solidify her status as one of the bright new lights in pop music.” Folk and roots music are still prominent among her interests, and last season her sold-out Swimming in Dark Waters concert at The Appel Room was one of the stand-out events of the American Songbook season. The New York Times called it “a pinnacle of [the] season’s American Songbook series.”

Tickets for the American Songbook series go on sale to Friends of Lincoln Center on November 7 and to the public on November 14. For details, visit americansongbook.org.
