Boyhood—a film written, directed, and co-produced by Richard Linklater—has been nominated for four Gotham Independent Film Awards, leading this year's field with the most nominations: Best Feature, Best Actress for Patricia Arquette, Best Actor for Ethan Hawke, and Breakthrough Actor for Ellar Coltrane.

Shot over 12 years with the same cast, Boyhood is a groundbreaking story of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child named Mason (Coltrane), who literally grows up on screen before the viewers’ eyes. The New York Times film critic A.O. Scott called Boyhood "one of the most extraordinary movies of 2014, or for that matter the 21st century so far."

The Gotham Awards, presented by the Independent Filmmaker Project, will be handed out in a ceremony at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City on December 1.

Nonesuch Records released the Boyhood soundtrack, which spans the story's 12 years, with songs ranging from the year 2000 (Coldplay's "Yellow") to 2013 (Yo La Tengo's "I’ll Be Around"). The album also includes the classic "Band on the Run," by Paul McCartney and Wings, and a new song by Jeff Tweedy's father/son duo Tweedy, "Summer Noon."
