Sara Watkins recently stopped by the Rolling Stone offices to perform three songs off her self-titled Nonesuch debut for the "Smoking Section," which praises her "gorgeous voice and killer fiddle." She is joined for the performances by her brother Sean and keyboardist Benmont Tench (of the Heartbreakers), both of whom are featured on the album as well.
Sara Watkins is set to perform with Texas country-folk man Robert Earl Keen at the Fraze Pavillion in Kettering, Ohio, this Friday. She recently stopped by the Rolling Stone offices to perform a few songs off her self-titled Nonesuch debut for the "Smoking Section": two Sara-penned tunes, "My Friend" and "All This Time," plus the John Hartford tune "Long Hot Summer Days."
Says "Smoking Section" writer Austin Scaggs: "We were extremely psyched that Sara Watkins—the gorgeous voice and killer fiddle that makes NIckel Creek—stopped by the Smoking Section to perform a few tunes from her solo debut album."
The album, produced by famed Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones, features a number of stellar supporting musicians, including Sara's brother Sean Watkins (also of Nickel Creek) and keyboardist Benmont Tench of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Sean joins Sara in the "Smoking Section" performances too, as does Tench, which leads Scaggs to exclaim: "we almost lost it."
