Steve Reich will be featured on today's episode of Soundcheck, the daily music show from New York NPR member station WNYC, to discuss WTC 9/11, the title piece from his forthcoming album, due out on Nonesuch September 20. The interview first aired back in April, in advance of the New York premiere of WTC 9/11 at Carnegie Hall by Kronos Quartet, which commissioned the piece and performs it on the new album. Also on today's show to discuss the new album will be Washington Post classical music critic Anne Midgette. The album WTC 9/11, which also includes Reich's Mallet Quartet performed by Sō Percussion and Dance Patterns performed by members of Steve Reich and Musicians, is streaming in full this week as an NPR First Listen at npr.org/music. Reich discussed WTC 9/11 and the highly personal inspiration behind the new piece on the BBC World Service arts program The Strand on Monday, launching the show's week-long series looking at various artistic responses to 9/11.
