The year has hit the halfway mark, giving music lovers the perfect opportunity to look back and reflect on their favorite albums of the year (so far). NPR listeners have done just that, placing The Black Keys' latest album, Brothers, at No. 3; rounding out the list at No. 50 is David Byrne's Here Lies Love. The Irish Times has picked its own 30 Best of 2010, including Carolina Chocolate Drops' Genuine Negro Jig.
The year hits its halfway mark today, giving music lovers the perfect opportunity to look back and reflect on their favorite albums of the year (so far). NPR listeners have done just that and have picked their 50 favorites, placing The Black Keys' latest Nonesuch release, Brothers, at No. 3. The band's new album shares the Top 5 with Broken Bells (featuring Black Keys collaborator Brian Burton, a.k.a Danger Mouse), LCD Soundsystem, The National, and Gorillaz. On the latest episode of NPR's All Songs Considered, highlighting songs from the list, host Bob Boilen describes the Keys as "a band that's gone from big to huge in 2010."
Here Lies Love, David Byrne's double-disc song cycle on the life of Imelda Marcos, rounds out the list, coming in at No. 50.
