Despite heavy rain at the Ottawa Bluesfest last Friday, The Black Keys' audience was given "a night for the Bluesfest history books," says the Ottawa Citizen. The National Post, reviewing Thursday's show at Toronto's Molson Amphitheatre says: "The set is bigger. The lights are bigger. But it’s their sound and their showmanship, which used to rattle the walls of little clubs, that is now shaking stadiums."

The line-up for the festival, announced this morning via YouTube by Virgin's Sir Richard Branson, also includes TV on the Radio, Cee Lo Green, Deadmau5, Patti Smith, James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, Cut Copy, Okkervil River, and more. Hearty Canadian Black Keys fans braved an onslaught of rain and wind Friday night for a set at the Ottawa Bluesfest that, though delayed, proved well worth the wait.
"The Black Keys gave such a ferocious performance at Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest on Friday that no one would dare complain that it was too short," reports the Ottawa Citizen's Lynn Saxberg. "Instead, people will be thanking their lucky stars that they stuck it out through the weather conditions." Saxberg, noting that "there's nothing like triumph over adversity to fuel a rock concert," recognizes it as "a night for the Bluesfest history books."

The previous night, the band played the Molson Canadian Amphtitheatre in Toronto, to which the Toronto Sun gives four-and-a-half stars, asking: "Who knew two early thirtysomething dudes from Akron, Ohio ... could make such a sexy, swampy, soulful, old sound and leaving the audience wanting more?" The National Post, in its review, notes that, while the band is playing bigger venues now, it's filling them with even bigger shows.
"It is, quite frankly, amazing to see how the little two-man rock ‘n roll band from Akron, Ohio, has managed to build out its show from playing smaller venues to filling a stage like the Amphitheatre," remarks the National Post's Scott Deveau. "The set is bigger. The lights are bigger. But it’s their sound and their showmanship, which used to rattle the walls of little clubs, that is now shaking stadiums."
While Deveau had previously seen the band in a smaller venue, giving a set he "didn’t think they’d be able to top," rest assured: "they managed to up their game in the bigger venue Thursday."
