Congratulations to The Black Keys on their nomination in the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. The band is up for Best Rock Video for "Howlin' for You," off their multiple Grammy Award-winning album Brothers. As MTV describes it: "The Black Keys turn their music video into an action packed movie trailer complete with knife fights, kickass women and good 'ole fashion stare downs." The MTV Video Music Awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on August 28 at 9 PM ET.

Directed by Chris Marrs Piliero, the video-cum-film-trailer stars Tricia Helfer, Sean Patrick Flanery, Corbin Bernsen, Todd Bridges, and Shaun White. Following its premiere on IMDB in February, Pitchfork called it "hilariously awesome," this "trailer for a so-bad-it's-insanely-good action film." They were not alone. "It's campy, it's cheesy and it's full of violence," said Billboard. "Between the hilariously bad dialogue, the sexy Helfer scenes and a Shaun White cameo, this is certainly a release we're howlin' for." The estimable IFC said: "Robert Rodriguez would blush at the sight of this music video movie trailer by The Black Keys."

    Congratulations to Kronos Quartet, whose acclaimed 1992 Nonesuch album Pieces of Africa has been named one of twenty-five recordings to be inducted into the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress for 2024.
