Pianist/composer Timothy Andres, whose debut album, Shy and Mighty, was released in 2010 on Nonesuch, will appear on today's episode of The New Canon on Q2, the online stream from New York's WQXR dedicated to new music. Also on today's show is fellow composer/performer Gabriel Kahane. The two will talk with host Olivia Giovetti about the blurring line between classical and pop musics, where their own music fits in, and just what exactly the music being made now might be called. Andres will perform a solo concert at Bargemusic, a floating concert hall housed in a 19th-century coffee barge under the Brooklyn Bridge, this Thursday night, June 9. He will perform some of his own pieces as well as works recent works by Christopher Cerrone, Derek Johnson, and Ingram Marshall, plus two new pieces commissioned for the occasion from Ted Hearne and Jacob Cooper. Andres will also participate in the free Bang on a Can festival at the World Financial Center's Winter Garden in New York on Father's Day, June 19, as will Philip Glass and many others.
