While we can't go out to take in great live music, here are some events taking place online to enjoy while staying home this weekend—a long Memorial Day weekend in the US: Joshua Redman and Tigran Hamasyan perform in the free online Tokyo Jazz Festival Saturday and Sunday; Rhiannon Giddens and Francesco Turrisi lead a live home concert to benefit Gather New Haven Friday; Lake Street Dive's 2018 concert at The Anthem in DC premieres on Nugs Friday; Lianne La Havas is on BBC Two's Later... With Jools Holland from home Friday night.

While we can't go out to take in great live music, here are some events taking place online to enjoy while staying home this weekend—a long Memorial Day weekend in the US. Joshua Redman and Tigran Hamasyan perform in the free online edition of the Tokyo Jazz Festival taking place this Saturday and Sunday from 8pm JST (7am EST) both days via the festival's YouTube channel. Redman plays two sets: one with pianist Hiromi Uehara and another in a virtual reunion with his Still Dreaming band mates cornetist Ron Miles, bassist Scott Colley, and drummer Dave King (sitting in for Brian Blade). The group, which the Washington Post called "consistently riveting," performs songs from the 2018 Grammy-nominated album Still Dreaming, inspired by Redman's father Dewey's band Old and New Dreams.

Rhiannon Giddens and Francesco Turrisi lead a live concert from home in Ireland, featuring songs from their album there is no Other and more, to benefit Gather New Haven Friday afternoon at 4pm ET. All proceeds go to support Gather New Haven's mission to promote health, equity, and justice for people and the environment. Details and tickets here.

    Kronos Quartet's Album 'Pieces of Africa' Inducted Into National Recording Registry at Library of Congress

    Congratulations to Kronos Quartet, whose acclaimed 1992 Nonesuch album Pieces of Africa has been named one of twenty-five recordings to be inducted into the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress for 2024. "It planted a seed for our work," Kronos founder and violinist David Harrington says of the album. "It's flowered so beautifully."
